North Dakota

Welcome to the Peace Garden state!

Each state needs a competent medical workforce to meet the needs of it's citizens. However, the requirements for some health care professions are not the same in each state. That is why it is important to find out what is required of you as a future or current registered nurse before moving across state lines. Contact information is located at the bottom of this page.

North Dakota is a compact state. If you are moving to North Dakota or claiming it as your primary state of residence, you will need to apply for application by endorsement in order to use your license in North Dakota. General instructions are listed below.

Your initial license will expire on December 31st of the following year. Subsequent renewals will take place every two years and cost $120. You must practice for a minimum of 400 hours during the last four years or take an approved refresher course. You will also be required to take at least 12 hours of continuing education contact hours in the two years preceding renewal.

This state requires nurses to hold current ACLS certification.
