Each state needs a competent medical workforce to meet the needs of it’s citizens. However, the requirements for some health care professions are not the same in each state. That is why it is important to find out what is required of you as a future or current registered nurse before moving across state lines. Contact information is located at the bottom of this page.
New Jersey is a compact state. If you are moving to New Jersey or claiming it as your primary state of residence, you will need to apply for application by endorsement in order to use your license in New Jersey. General instructions are listed below.
Below are general requirements for endorsement:
Complete application with notarized affidavit
Appropriate fees
$200 to the New Jersey Board of Nursing (for application, filing and surcharge)
$61.44 to Morphotrust (for fingerprints)
2x2 passport style photo
Birth certificate
If applicable, immigration documents
If applicable, change of name documents
Authorization for criminal background check
Fingerprint card
If you live in the metropolitan New Jersey area you will receive digital fingerprint information in the mail.
Verification of licensure from Nursysfrom all states you have practiced in

The renewal takes place every two years. The fee is $100.
You must take 30 hours of continuing education between renewal periods. Your continuing education must come from an organization that is accredited by National Commission for Certifying Agencies or the International Association for Continuing Education.
